John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs he wrote, most of them located in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was raised in Roswell New Mexico. However, he was enthralled by Colorado. The singer-songwriter eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's iconic anthems for Colorado are a source of inspiration for many to move to the state. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated that John Denver is the only musician to truly embody Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever to be inducted. Today he personifies the state to people around the world. When I travel, I always meet someone from the other part of the globe, someone who is from New Zealand and you say "I'm from Colorado and the first word that comes out of their mouth is"Oh John Denver! Brown explained. Take Me Home Country Roads written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief time as a folk musician which was Denver's first Top 10 solo hit. Danoff was credited with Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the song, but Denver recognized that the song could become a smash hit when he heard an earlier version. After the performance to a throng of fans in Washington D.C., the artist recorded the song.
